friday favorites.

Hey there! I decided to share some of my favorite things that I’ve been enjoying this week. It has been a pull your hair out kind of week for me dealing with work, PMS, and life. Sometimes you just have to laugh off the stress and surround yourself with things that make you relaxed and happy.

 {Fresh flowers on my bedside table really gives my space some class and an added sense of calm.}

{I adore my chalkboard wall. I try to change the quotes that appear every week or so. This week I added a lyric from Miranda Lambert’s Virginia Bluebell.}

{FOOD. Because I have been dealing with PMS all week, my body has been screaming for food. This is a healthy way to deal with the craving. Roasted cauliflower and tomatoes for the win. Sprinkle a little EVOO and some lemon pepper and put those puppies into the oven until golden brown. Yum.}

{I have been listening to Tom Petty all week. Don’t know why… Okay, I do know why. He is awesome.}

music monday: my week in three songs.

Okay… I am a total slacker. I have been so preoccupied and have pretty much left this blog in the dust. To anyone who reads it, I apologize. I am jumping back on the blogger wagon starting today.  What better post to start back up with than a Music Monday. So, today I am going to be sharing three different songs that I have been playing nonstop this past week. Hopefully you find something here that you haven’t heard before! Enjoy, and check back this week for a few more posts.

James Morrison: The Pieces Don’t Fit Anymore

Lana Del Rey: Video Games

Gregory Alan Isakov: Big Black Car

Okay, I lied. Four songs today… I can’t forget my girl Miranda. This song is on repeat everyday.

Miranda Lambert: Over You

music monday: passion pit.

Happy Monday.

I’m back today with not only a musical but visual treat for you. Passion Pit is an indie/techno band born in Boston, Massachusetts. It’s headed by lead singer Michael Angelakos whose vocal stylings are so unique. I became a huge fan of Passion Pit when they released their single Sleepyhead back in 2008. In late 2012 they released their second album Gossamer, which became an instant listen on my stereo. One track in particular pulled me in, and I have been listening to it non-stop for months now. Carried Away is a make you wanna dance goofy, happy go-lucky, easy listen. Okay, and here is the most amazing part… they released the music video on Valentine’s Day and guess who was featured in the music video? SOPHIA BUSH. Sophia is my person. I adore her style, personality, acting, and her intellect. This video turned out to be the cutest thing and I just had to share it. Hope you all enjoy.

music monday: break-up songs.

I know, I know… It’s Valentine’s Day week and I am going to share break up songs. I promise I am not trying to be a scrooge. I was just listening to some songs today that reminded me of break-ups and I thought I would share them for all you people who are dealing with something like that right now. P.S. January and early February have the highest number of break-ups than any other months.

Holly Brook: What I Wouldn’t Give

Schuyler Fisk: Cold Heart

Gavin DeGraw: Glass

{The lyrics to this song… seriously just listen.}

i cry.

I probably cry at least once a day. It’s not out of sadness necessarily, but out of being vulnerable and letting things affect me. I hate when people dismiss crying or showing emotion. We are humans, and a need to express our emotion is part of life. If you can’t feel something, then you aren’t really living, right? I came across this quote from Zooey Deschanel and it really resonated with me. All my life people have told me i’m too sensitive. I cry at movies, I cry at great speeches, I cry at random acts of kindness… and honestly I see it as a gift. Don’t let anyone get in the way of experiencing this life. It’s not sensitivity, it’s living.

Thanks Zooey.

music monday: most listened to tracks.

These tracks are the top 3 tracks played on my iTunes right now. No surprise, they are mostly slow jams. I hope one of these songs grabs you and inspires you this week. Happy Monday.

The Girl: City and Colour

“While I’m off chasing my own dreams, and sailing around the world. Please know that I’m yours to keep, my beautiful girl.”

Where I Stood: Missy Higgins

“I don’t know what I’ve done, or if I like what I’ve begun. But something told me to run, and honey you know me, it’s all or none.”

Blood Bank: Bon Iver

“That secret that you knew but don’t know how to tell. It fucks with your honor and it teases your head.”

all about decor.

I feel like the decor of your house reflects your personality. I try really hard to make my space interesting and comfortable. I live with a roommate (whom I love), so I put my energy into my bedroom because it’s a space all my own. It is always a work in progress, but you can only do so much decorating on a tight budget!

I love the comforter on my bed! People that know me know I love black and white patterns, almost too much. So to distance myself from black and white I decided to go with an orange/red pop of color with shams from Anthropologie. Above my bed I have two shelves and two clocks reflecting EST and PST.

On the wall opposite from my bed I have a photo collage and knobs to hang all of my necklaces. I used a simple bookshelf to house my favorite shoes and perfumes.

I love my makeup vanity. It is simple and doesn’t overpower my space.

On my vanity I reuse old candle jars to hold my favorite nail polishes as well as q-tips and cotton balls.

To open up my room, I took the massive doors off of my closet and added curtains. It makes my room look stylish and really opens the space up.

My bathroom is inside my bedroom, which is pretty convenient. I recently added these candles on the counter. I took some empty whiskey bottles, and put candlesticks inside. Pretty cool, eh?

Like I said, my bedroom will always be a work in progress. But I am pretty happy with what I have done so far!
